International Evening is a very exciting time for AITE students from every corner of the world. In our school there are 52 diverse nationalities and on this one special night they all come together to learn and interact. It is a time when students from different parts of the world put their countries on display and learn about other countries and cultural backgrounds. Of the many countries included in our AITE community are; Israel, Spain, Ireland, China, Germany, Sweden, France, Great Britain and many others.
Students set up booths representing their culture that includes pictures, information and food. There are images of the country and of the flag. Visuals reveal insight into culture, history, and language. Sometimes there are artifacts from the countries, like chopsticks from Japan or other trinkets. Many peoples favorite aspect is the food. Each country has distinct beverages, dishes, and desserts. Presentations on each country are performed and last year there were 28 countries represented. There are also performances, for example some students perform traditional Irish dancing. Last year there were people to give the guests henna tattoos; henna is a traditional Indian art.
There will be a chocolate fountain with strawberries to accompany a variety of dance forms; Salsa, Tango, Waltz, Polka, and even the Chicken Dance. Come and enjoy this fantastic evening with our International Family.
This year there will be the 8th Annual International Evening to be held on Friday March 30th from six to eight pm. A variety of people come together to enjoy this time; parents, students, teachers, and even people from downtown come to enjoy this evening. Alumni are invited this year and for the first time they will receive free admission as long as they RSVP.
The World Language Department puts this entire evening together and Ms. Koltypin certainly loves taking part in this event. “It is an evening where everyone comes together in harmony” she states. It is true, all of the people come and have a good time, they laugh and learn about other countries, even things they previously didn’t know about.
“There is so much political unrest around the world, yet here are students from all around the world and they get along. Why can’t the whole world be like that?” Ms. Koltypin wonders. It is amazing how our school works together, we all are from different parts of the world and yet we all get along and are friends with many people of other nationalities.
World differences don’t stop friendships from occurring at AITE, which is one of the wonderful things about AITE. We are so diverse and that is what is so great about International Evening, we learn from each other and each others’ experiences.
