Some of you may know Mr. Stout as the English teacher in room 304. Some of you may not know him at all. But some of you do know him. For those people, we know that he is a smart and intellectual teacher. He is a passionate writer, actor and friend. I received the privilege of interviewing him and we had a great time. This interview just goes to show that Mr. Stout has always been an outside of the box thinker.
Who are you and what subject do you teach?
My name is Derek Stout and I teach English.
What school clubs are you involved in or run?
What do I run? About a 6 minute mile. No marathons though. But I do run a class room very efficiently.
Okay, what clubs are you involved in or in charge of?
STAND and Theatre.
What are they about? What do you guys do?
In STAND we spread awareness, in hopes that our efforts stop genocide and promote peace in the world.
And what about theatre?
A chance for young minds who are interested in the dramatic arts, to practice their skills. Be it acting or play writing.
Where do they meet?
Room 304
What time?
Time is like a broken watch, usually man made. But at 2:05.
Why do you run them? Is it something you are interested?
Yeah, I am interested in people not dying for who they are and I am interested in the dramatic arts. In high school I was voted most dramatic. Not for theatre though. (laughs)
How many people do you want involved?
As many as possible. There’s no quota. It’s not like “Only 15 people can save lives today.”
If you want to join how do you?
Show up.
Once in the club, what do they have to do to stay in it? Any responsibilities?
They have to think about it outside of the classroom. The students should be vocal leaders in and out of school.
When you were in high school, what clubs were you in?
I was in the Future Business Leaders of America. Varsity soccer.
What did you do in Future Business Leaders of America? Has it affected your life today?
Yeah, you see the thing is the economy commerce power changes every minute, we devolved people skills. Also a lot of the jargin is the same. You take a group of kids, focus on a project and it was great.
What did you play in varsity soccer?
Striker and stopper
Finally, last words on anything?
Life is like lunch, there is too much to choose from. But whatever you do choose, make it a healthy choice.
