A Locker of Quality
What does it take to be the best picture of the year? Every year since 1929, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been recognizing one film as the best of it’s year of release. As the years have progressed, these awards have become the highest achievements that can be awarded in the film community. Many famous films have been awarded the coveted Oscar, ranging from “Gone with the Wind” (1939) to “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962) to “The Godfather” (1972) to “Schindler’s List” (1993). At the last ceremony, the award was given to the remarkable and daring “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008), a film that truly deserves the title of best of its year. And now, we fast-forward to this year’s winner, “The Hurt Locker” (2009), directed by Katheryn Bigelow and featuring actor Jeremy Renner.
